Sia gets seriously inspirational on the new ballad “Angel by the Wings,” a sweeping track she recorded for the documentary The Eagle Huntress. The movie — executive produced and narrated by Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley — tells the story of a 13-year-old Mongolian girl, Aisholpan, who is determined to break through 12 generations of family tradition to become the first female eagle hunter to compete at the prestigious Golden Eagle Festival.
Sia’s song is appropriately soaring, opening with stately piano and slowly building to a crescendo as she sings, “Take an angel by the wings/ Beg her now for everything/ Beg her now for one more day/ Take an angel by the wings/ Time to tell her anything/ Ask her for the strength to stay.” The chorus says it all: “You can do anything.”
Some description of the film from a synopsis on the official site: “Set against the breathtaking expanse of the Mongolian steppe, THE EAGLE HUNTRESS features some of the most awe-inspiring cinematography ever captured in a documentary, giving this intimate tale of a young girl’s quest the dramatic force of an epic narrative film. While there are many old Kazakh eagle hunters who vehemently reject the idea of any female taking part in their ancient tradition, Aisholpan’s father Nurgaiv believes that a girl can do anything a boy can, as long as she’s determined.” (Learn more about the incredible story behind the film here.)
