Shawn Mendes is off doing big things. Today (June 25) marks one month since the 19-year-old released his self-titled album, his third to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Aside from topping the charts, in the last few weeks Mendes surpassed 1 billion global streams on Apple Music, appeared on “Carpool Karaoke” and even released a clothing line with Urban Outfitters.
Check out a timeline of Mendes’ biggest post-album-release achievements below.
June 1: Performed on the Today show
It may have rained and poured — but that didn’t stop Mendes from facing the rain to perform for his fans in Rockefeller Center for Today. In an interview with the Today show hosts, Mendes confessed that his recent EP is “the most honest I’ve ever been with my music.”
June 1: Performed at the Governors Ball Music Festival
Mendes crooned fans with a heartfelt performance at the Governors Ball Music Festival on June 1. The singer’s 35-minute set marked his Gov Ball debut, where he performed hits from his past albums including Illuminate‘s “Mercy” and Handwritten‘s “Stitches,” as well as renditions of “Lost In Japan” and “In My Blood” from his latest LP. The singer also delivered a soulful cover of Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody,” captivating the audience as fans sang along in harmony.
June 3: Placed No. 1 on Billboard 200 With Self-Titled LP, Shawn Mendes
On June 3, Mendes became the third-youngest solo artist to achieve three No. 1 albums — joining an elite group including Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus. The full-length album was released May 25 via Island Records, and launched with 182,000 equivalent album units in the first week, according to Nielsen.
June 4 through June 7: Took Over The Late Late Show
The four-day venture included a string of fun sketches with late show host James Corden, including a “Carpool Karaoke” session where the singer belted his most famous tunes and admitted his unhealthy obsession with the Harry Potter movies. One of our favorite skits was Mendes’ cover battle with Corden on a subway platform, as well as an intimate, acoustic performance with Julia Michaels on their track, “Like To Be You.”
June 5: Announced as iHeartRadio Music Festival Performer
Mendes was named a performer for the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Festival, joining a star-studded roster that includes Justin Timberlake, Carrie Underwood, Imagine Dragons and Mariah Carey. The two-day festival, hosted by Ryan Seacrest, will be held on Sept. 21 and 22 in Las Vegas, NV, with Mendes taking the stage on Sept. 22.
June 6: Surpassed 1 Billion Global Streams on Apple Music
After snatching the No. 1 album spot, Mendes wasn’t finished making music history. Just days after debuting at No. 1, Apple Music confirmed to Billboard that Shawn Mendes, became the most-streamed pop album of 2018 in its first week on Apple music. This breaks the previous record held by another pop icon, the one and only Justin Timberlake. Mendes also managed to surpass 1 billion global streams on Apple Music alone. We’re impressed.
June 6: Announced New Campaign With Emporio Armani for Fall-Winter 2018, #EAWatches
On June 6, Mendes announced on Instagram that he will reunite with Emporio Armani and extend their collaboration through 2018. The partnership between the two initially started last June, when Mendes walked the runway of the Emporio Armani spring 2018 show — unveiling the first smartwatch for the company. In the latest fall-winter 2018 campaign, Mendes will represent the entire line of watches.
June 11: Released “Nervous” Music Video in Color
Mendes also managed to surprise fans by releasing an in-color version of his music video “Nervous,” originally shared as a black-and-white vertical video on Spotify. A smiling Mendes sings through the song’s catchy guitar riffs, while hands behind him get touchy-feely with the singer (he didn’t seem to care, though). The video has already garnered more than 17 million views.
June 13: Released a Portuguese version of “In My Blood” for Portugal’s World Cup Song
We’re not the only ones fawning over Portugal’s star player, Cristiano Ronaldo. Mendes is also a huge fan of the team, so much that he released a new version of “In My Blood” as the official song for Portugal at the World Cup on June 13. Son of a Portuguese immigrant from Lagos, Mendes has continued to show support for his father’s national team.
June 15: Landed Cover of Wonderland Summer 2018 Issue
Fans were captivated by Mendes’ soft smile on the cover of Wonderland Magazine this month, when he posed for the cover of the Summer 2018 issue, which launched June 15. In an interview with the magazine, he opened up about disclosing his anxiety to his fans in his upcoming album. “The day after it came out, I started getting messages from fans, friends and family about how important it was to them. You know, I couldn’t be happier,” Mendes admitted.
June 18: Launched #ShawnMendesCollection with Urban Outfitters
Mendes also expanded his horizons by partnering with Urban Outfitters for a limited-edition clothing line. The new collection includes tour-inspired merchandise in a variety of colors and styles, which he showed off on Instagram on the day of the line’s launch. Shawn’s collection is currently in Urban Outfitters stores in New York, Los Angeles and Toronto, and available online at UrbanOutfitters.com.
So what’s next for Mendes? The singer will spend the next few months traveling to perform at various music festivals — making stops in Brazil, Japan, Portugal, the U.K. and more — before launching Shawn Mendes: The Tour in Amsterdam on March 7, 2019.
