What’s ailing young Shawn Mendes? A broken heart — at least, that’s the case in his new music video for “Stitches,” the breakout single from his debut LP Handwritten.
The new clip, which premiered via Buzzfeed on Wednesday (June 24), finds Mendes getting bruised and bloodied in an empty parking lot. The singer-songwriter attempts to move forward, but keeps getting knocked down by some unseen emotional force — eventually crashing through a wall and getting knocked out. Stitches? Definitely needed.

“Stitches” comes from Mendes’ debut album Handwritten, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart upon its April release. The album was led by the single “Something Big,” and included last year’s Top 40 hit “Life of a Party.”
“Stitches” is slowly becoming Mendes’ first real radio hit, moving up 10 spots to No. 69 on this week’s Hot 100 chart. Mendes is touring with Taylor Swift this summer as part of her 1989 stadium tour.
