
Shawn Mendes gave his fans a taste of the good old days by releasing a new cover on Wednesday (Aug. 12).
Mendes, a 17-year-old pop star who initially built up his fanbase through Vine videos, covered One Direction‘s latest hit “Drag Me Down.” The black-and-white YouTube video shows Mendes alone with his guitar singing an acoustic version of the pop hit.

The young Canadian singer recently celebrated his birthday in front of 60,000 screaming fans onstage with Taylor Swift in Seattle. Swift had the crowd sing “Happy Birthday” to him, which apparently rocked his world.
Mendes has been an opening act on Swift’s 1989 World Tour, but he’ll headline his own show at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday with Andy Grammer and Jacquie Lee. (Stick with Billboard.com for coverage of Sunday’s show.)
