Shawn Mendes knows how to make fans swoon — even when singing to an empty arena.
In a new video for an acoustic version of his Illuminate track “Mercy,” Mendes sits at a piano in the center of Madison Square Garden, where he performed a sold-out show to celebrate his album release in September. But instead of being surrounded by 20,000 screaming fans, the 18-year-old singer took advantage of the calm before the storm and sang his heart out.
The release of Mendes’ latest video comes just two days before the singer releases an album from that said show, Live at Madison Square Garden. We can imagine those recordings probably feature many more crowd squeals than this “Mercy” version.
