Shawn Mendes didn’t realize just how massive the shows would be on his current tour until he stepped on the stage for the first string of North American dates. “The tour has been going amazing, it’s been crazy. I knew the shows were a lot bigger, but until you actually step in front of that many people you don’t really feel how big it is and the shows are actually huge,” he in the first edition of his “World Tour Diaries” series, which chronicles the behind-the-scenes and onstage vibe on the tour promoting his upcoming sophomore album, Illuminate (Sept. 23).
Mendes will give fans an exclusive preview of the album during a headlining show at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Saturday, Sept. 10. “This North American leg of the tour has been so amazing so far. It’s really unreal to come back to the venues I was once an opener at, and now come back and play to my own sold out crowds,” the “Treat You Better” star told Billboard. “I’ve also had a chance to preview a lot of the new music from my upcoming album Illuminate and am so excited to see the fans’ reactions to the new music.”
The first diary segment was directed by Josiah Van Dien and filmed during the kickoff of the North American leg and includes footage from: San Diego, Atlanta, Dallas, San Jose, San Antonio, St Augustine and Boca Raton.
