Welcome back to Takeover Tuesday, where each week, Billboard taps chart-topping artists and tastemakers to compile their very own playlist exclusive to Billboard’s Spotify account. We give the artists free rein to base the list on whatever subject they choose. The only rule? Make it as creative and unique to them as possible.
Electro-pop trio SHAED initially stormed onto the scene back in 2016 with the release of their breakthrough single, “Perfume.” The bubbly track has racked up 2.9 million streams on Spotify, elevated by lead singer Chelsea Lee’s capitvatingly sultry vocals. Two years later, the group garnered similar attention with another 2016 track, “Name On It,” which is featured in a recent Victoria’s Secret campaign and has more than 5 million YouTube views.
Now, Lee and twin brothers Max and Spencer Ernst (production, programming and backing vocals), are on the precipice of following up their 2016 EP Just Wanna See with the release of their second EP, Melt, due Sept. 21. In preparation for the release, SHAED put together a specially curated a playlist of songs that inspired the writing on their latest set.
The playlist consists of 16 tracks infused with some of today’s biggest and brightest stars in R&B and pop, featuring hitmakers like Khalid and Childish Gambino, as well as newer stars such as H.E.R., Billie Eilish and Clairo. “These artists inspire us on a daily basis, especially while writing our EP, Melt,” the band revealed. “Whether it’s cooking or warming up for a show, these tracks are some of our faves!”
The group will be celebrating their EP release with two shows: Mercury Lounge in New York City on Sept. 20, and Rock & Roll Hotel in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 29. Ahead of Melt‘s release Friday, check out SHAED’s Takeover Tuesday playlist below.
