Welcome back to Takeover Tuesday, where each week, Billboard taps chart-topping artists and tastemakers to compile their very own playlist exclusive to Billboard‘s Spotify account. We give the artists free rein to base the list on whatever subject they choose. The only rule? Make it as creative and unique to them as possible.
SG Lewis had quite the weekend at Coachella. The 24-year-old British producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist hit the Mojave tent on the first day of the fest, his wavy electronic vibes filling the tent to capacity. As he gears up for round two on Friday, SG is keeping up his hype with some tunes dedicated to the nightlife at the desert festival, and he’s sharing his afterparty playlist for Takeover Tuesday.
“Coachella is infamous for the the various afterparties that take place on both weekends — a place where the fun continues til the early hours after the main festival finishes for the night,” SG tells Billboard in a statement. “I’m planning on gatecrashing as many DJ booths as possible armed with a USB drive, and probably pissing off whoever’s playing in the process. If I don’t kicked out, here’s some music I might play.”
His 10-song playlist features hints of disco thanks to Jackie Moore‘s classic “This Time Baby” and Maceo Plex’s psychedelic “Love Somebody Else,” but overall provides heavy house beats perfect for any size dance floor. SG shouts out some promising newcomers like Channel Tres (“I really think Channel is gonna be massive,” he says) as well as dance veteran such as Kaytranada, who SG suggests “could be the greatest beatmaker alive.” And of course, he couldn’t resist throwing in a couple of his own jams: “Who doesn’t love self-promo?”
If you’ll be hitting Coachella this weekend, take a listen to SG Lewis’ playlist to get a feel for what you might hear at his set (or one of the post-fest raves). If you won’t be in Indio, at least you now have some bumping dance tracks to cure your FOMO.
