Sara Bareilles released a new music video today (Feb. 7) for her single “Armor.”
The potent video begins with a reflective quote from author Maya Angelou stating, “The woman who survives intact and happy must be at once tender and tough.” Images of ballerinas rehearsing in a studio are then woven with protest signs from the Women’s March held around the U.S.
Lyrically, Bareilles empowers the women’s movement with the lines, “Let me ask a question/ to present day/ how the hell did Eve end up with all the damn blame?” The chorus is gut-punching with the catchy demand of, “You make me stronger/ give me my armor.”
“Armor” will appear on Bareilles’ fifth studio album, produced by T Bone Burnett and set to release this spring on Epic Records.
