Saint Motel rose to acclaim with the bubbly hit “My Type” from their 2014 EP of the same name. Now, the indie pop outfit is preparing for the release of their upcoming record saintmotelevison, out Oct. 21.
While they have already shared lead single “Move,” they’re now sharing the second song off the album — titled “You Can Be You” — exclusively with Billboard.

“While the sound of our lead single ‘Move’ kind of picks up where the My Type EP left off, ‘You Can Be You’ takes you further into the depths of what the [upcoming] full-length album is,” A/J Jackson says.
The upcoming record was recorded in the band’s Los Angeles studio and, aside from Jackson, features production from Lars Stalfors (Cold War Kids) and Tim Pagnotta (Walk the Moon).

As for the two new songs, the group has shared accompanying visuals via 360° videos for each, which they are referring to as “The Virtualizer.” They say the word describes their mix of visualizers, lyrics videos, live performance, and 360° animation, and that the new technology and perspective “is our second foray into the new Virtual Reality art form.”
The particular “virtual world” for “You Can Be You” takes place in a “surreal summer-camp fairy tale complete with bouncing ball-sing-a-long lyrics that’s meant to mirror the almost child-like innocence of the lyrics,” Jackson says. “If you listen closely to the chorus, you’ll hear the sound of a Brontosaurus, it adds a nice otherworldliness to the song.”
