New York singer-songwriter Ryan Egan gets carried away on the blissful prospect of a strong connection in “Won’t You Be the One?,” available exclusively on Billboard below.
“‘Won’t You Be the One?’ is a song about allowing yourself to fully trust someone else and get lost within that bond, whether it’s romantic or a friendship … particularly after having been hurt or having closed yourself off emotionally,” Egan tells Billboard. “It’s a bit of a declaration of commitment to the right person when they finally come along, an experience I’m privileged to have encountered.”
With verses filled with earnest contemplation and a mix of falsetto and spoken-word, Egan seems to turn the question on himself as much as his companion in an effort to shed the final threads of skepticism. It’s a spacey slow-burn that stands as a meditation on commitment after already recognizing a readiness to take the next step.
