Electric pop star Robyn sat down with BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac on Wednesday (Aug. 1) to premiere her brand-new single “Missing U,” about the empty space left behind by a lost lover. ?She also revealed a documentary in the works and that her album is set to drop later this year.
Recorded mostly at Robyn’s studio in Stockholm, the new album has “a sensuality and a softness to it that maybe wasn’t there before,” Robyn told Mac. “When I wrote this album, I was quite tired of myself writing sad love songs… but then I did anyway.”
“Looking back at that now, it’s OK to be sad,” the singer later added. “Combining it with something bright and strong and powerful is finding your way out of it too.” “Missing U” does just that, lyrically pairing the empty feeling of heartbreak with Robyn’s signature sonic builds and bright beats.
While discussing life over the past eight years since her Body Talk series wrapped up, Robyn revealed, “I wanted to make an album in 2014 but I really didn’t know what to say.” After traveling, writing and going to therapy sessions, she found the words. The eight-year gap will be addressed in a coming documentary showing the creative process and time spent in Ibiza, LA, Paris and Stockholm.
