A federal judge in Chicago on Tuesday (July 16) ordered R&B singer R. Kelly be held in jail without bond on sex crime charges.
Prosecutors asked he remain in custody because they told the judge he is dangerous and a flight risk.
Kelly pleaded not guilty on a 13-count indictment that same day.
According to reporter Megan Crepeau of the Chicago Tribune, Kelly will be taken by U.S. Marshals to face the New York indictment in Brooklyn within the coming weeks.
The disgraced singer and songwriter has been held in Metropolitan Correction Center in Chicago since his arrest last Thursday on accusations out of New York of illegal sex with girls and women, who he allegedly paid or threatened to keep quiet.
The 13-count Chicago indictment details efforts to cover up sexually explicit videos of Kelly with underage girls as well as bribes, physical abuse, violence and blackmail to prevent victims from providing evidence to law enforcement.
The 52-year-old Kelly was arrested Thursday night by NYPD detectives and Homeland Security Investigators on separate allegations of child porn, enticement of a minor and obstruction of justice, officials said.
An indictment unsealed Friday in the Eastern District of New York includes charges of racketeering, kidnapping, forced labor and the sexual exploitation of a child, and accuses Kelly and his managers, bodyguards and other assistants of targeting women and girls at concerts and other venues to allegedly be abused.
Kelly and his attorneys have maintained his innocence.
Also on Tuesday, Lifetime’s Surviving R. Kelly received an Emmy nomination. The six-episode series — which aired in January and featured more than 50 people speaking about alleged acts of abuse by the R&B singer — was nominated for outstanding informational series or special.
