Pvris‘ new song and video for “Death of Me” was unveiled Friday (July 12) and marks the beginning of a new era for the alt-pop trio. It’s the first single from their forthcoming record, as well as their Warner Records/Reprise debut.
The Katharine White-directed video features frontwoman Lynn Gunn, who conceptualized the clip, as she sings while covered in snakes and dancers. “‘Cause heaven knows what you do to me/ Let you chain me up or set me free/ You could suffocate or let me breathe/ You could be the death of me,” she sings. It’s a dark, gritty video with flashing lights and intense movements, enhancing the track’s sensual, devilish atmosphere.
“We wanted to match the seductive grittiness of the song with uncertain, tense and subliminal visual themes,” Gunn explained in a statement. “We also hid, in plain view, references to the occult and divination, to be unpacked by the viewer…if they so choose.”
The band is also set for U.S. underplay tour in September, set to kick off at L.A.’s El Rey Theatre and wrapping at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, N.Y. Tickets will be available on Friday (July 19) at 10 a.m. local time here. A limited number of fans who purchase tickets will be selected to participate in an exclusive pre-show listening party to hear new music with the band as well.
“Death of Me” is the follow up to the band’s 2017 LP, All We Know of Heaven, All We Need of Hell.
