Phoebe Ryan has given her song “Be Real” a facelift in a new video premiering through Billboard this morning (Dec. 11). While the instrumentals have completely changed, now taken over primarily by a string orchestra, “Be Real” doesn’t lose its authenticity.
“This arrangement gives the song a new life,” Ryan tells Billboard. “I remember hearing it for the first time and being so happy that it translated. It’s exactly the feeling I was going for with these sessions in Nashville.”
Ryan recorded a few songs at the Layman Drug Company — a self-described antique drug store turned premium AV studio — and has already uploaded “Aspirin” (on Nov. 7) and “James Has Changed” (on Oct. 20) from her Layman Drug Sessions. All three songs are from Ryan’s five-song EP titled James.
For “Be Real,” Ryan’s airy voice contrasts the deep percussions from the drums and string instrumentalists that surround her.
