Following in the footsteps of “Despacito,” OneRepublic has tapped Colombian up-and-comer Sebastian Yatra for a bilingual remix of their new single “No Vacancy.”
The new track, out Friday (May 19) on Mosley/Interscope, will be worked by UMLE, Yatra’s label, for the Latin market. “This particular version of ‘No Vacancy’ with Sebastian Yatra happened very quickly,” OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder said in a statement. “We were so excited he loved the song and was interested in collaborating like we wanted to.”
The bilingual version kicks off with OneRepublic singing the first verse in English, followed by Yatra singing in Spanish.
Yatra, who also riffs in Spanish after the English chorus, wrote the Spanish lyrics along with longtime collaborator Mauricio Rengifo (Dandee) and Andrés Torres. “I grew up listening to OneRepublic and following Ryan Tedder’s career as a producer and composer,” said Yatra. “One of my biggest dreams was to work with him, but I thought it would happen maybe 10 years down the line. I still can’t believe this is happening.”
“No Vacancy” is set to what could be described as a reggaeton beat and has a distinct island sound that makes it particularly well-suited for a bilingual version.
