With the arrival of Liam Payne‘s first solo single “Strip That Down” on May 19, we officially have solo music from every One Direction member. But before you put your 1D solo songs playlist on repeat for the umpteenth time, it’s time to do what’s really important: Decide who is going to make the best solo artist.
Sure, you had your favorite when the boys were still the five-piece One Direction, but now that they’re able to really express themselves musically, it’s much easier to decipher who truly has the musical talent. So does Liam’s hip-hop-esque, almost JT vibe on “Strip That Down” seem like he’s destined for the most solo success? Or what about Harry Styles‘ impressive classic-rock ode with Harry Styles?
Niall Horan has also put up a good fight so far, releasing a sweet acoustic tune and following it up with the rather sexy toe-tapper “Slow Hands” — but Zayn Malik may have him beat in the sexy category for the 1D solo careers, whipping up bedroom jams like “Pillowtalk” and his Taylor Swift collab “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever.” And although Louis Tomlinson has only given us one glimpse of what he’s going to do with his solo venture, the upbeat Steve Aoki-assisted dance track “Just Hold On” can certainly hang with the rest of ’em.
Frankly, there’s so many different directions happening with these guys, it’s almost unfair to pit these guys against each other. But that’s why we want to hear from you — vote for which One Direction member you think is going to have the best/longest/most prosperous solo career below, and let the competition begin.
