Here’s something to scream about: One Direction has been added to the lineup for the 2015 American Music Awards.
The superstar pop group will perform their new song “Perfect” at the AMAs, which take place Nov. 22 at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater.
The fourpiece — Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson — should be familiar with format of the AMAs. The group (then a five piece) won three trophies last year’s ceremony — artist of the year; favorite duo or group, pop/rock; and favorite album, pop/rock. And they’ve won a further two trophies from previous editions. This time, the boy band is nominated in two categories, including artist of the year.
2015 American Music Awards: Taylor Swift Leads Nominations
“Perfect” is from 1D’s forthcoming fifth studio album Made In The A.M. which is scheduled to drop on Nov. 13. The arrival of “Perfect” earlier this month prompted 1.6 million Twitter mentions in a single week.
ABC will air the AMAs, which Jennifer Lopez hosts for the first time. The Latin pop icon will also perform on the night, along with a confirmed batch of talent which include Aussie pop-punk outfit 5 Seconds of Summer, pop star Selena Gomez and celebrated country artist Carrie Underwood.
Taylor Swift is the most nominated artist at this year’s awards with six, though The Weeknd, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Nicki Minaj and Meghan Trainor are close behind. AMAs nominees are based on key fan interactions as reflected in Billboard Magazine and on Billboard.com, including album and digital singles sales, radio airplay, streaming, social activity and touring. These measurements are tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Entertainment and Next Big Sound.
