Here’s the thing: Nick Jonas is already kind of a big deal. But apparently nobody told Saturday Night Live cast members Bowen Yang and Ego Nwodim the news. The Jonas Brothers singer is pulling double-duty on the show this weekend as host and musical guest and in the promo for his appearance the Camp Rock veteran has to explain to his new friends that he’s got this.
“Kid this is your big night!” a masked Yang tell Jonas, with Nwodim adding, “If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere!” The pair remind Jonas that this is his big shot and he should definitely not blow it. “Um, I think I’ve kind of already made it because I’m a very successful music artist?” Jonas responds. “Exactly! That’s a great attitude,” a supportive Nwodim says, as Yang encourages Nick to “Fake it till you make it.”
In the second promo Yang and Nwodim are kind of mad, actually, to hear that Jonas is also the musical guest since they were hoping to perform their debut song this weekend. “Cuz our new single just dropped you idiot!” a peeved Yang says. “Whoa, don’t call me an idiot,” an annoyed Jonas responds. “No, the single is called ‘You Idiot,'” Nwodim explains, as the pair cue up the non-existent house band and sing the chorus of thei fake track, “Kiss me, you idiot. Love me, you idiot. Get funky, you idiot.”
Jonas released the title track from his upcoming third solo album, Spaceman, on Thursday (Feb. 25), a song that captures his fear of isolation and which, like most the the tracks, is an homage to his wife, Priyanka Chopra Jonas. “Most of the songs are pretty much just love letters, which, when I can’t articulate the way I feel with my words with no music, I go to the studio,” the 28-year-old singer told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “And I’m grateful to have that because it makes her happy, and that’s most important.”
