The first official trailer for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was released on Thursday and along with stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas also makes a cameo in the action-adventure film.
The film is a continuation of the Jumanji story from the original 1995 film starring Robin Williams where four high school students get sucked into an old-school video game where they embody characters played by Johnson, Hart, Black and Gillan. Along the way, they meet Jonas’ character, Jefferson “Seaplane” McDonough.
“He’s a mysterious stranger that they meet in the midst of their adventure,” director Jake Kasdan told Entertainment Weekly. “At first, they’re not sure what to make of him, but he becomes a part of their effort to get out.”
In the punchline-packed trailer, Jonas’ brief appearance suggests his character knows a thing or two about surviving in the jungle. Black told EW that Jonas really did have a sense of outdoorsmanship on set.
“Nick really embraced the jungle,” Black said. “Like, Nick Jonas would disappear for a few days and just be on a real physical adventure. He’d come back with bumps and scrapes and bruises and a big smile on his face because he’d traversed some impossible mountain scape and came down the other side of the mountain on like a zipline.”
Maybe he picked that up from Bear Grylls.
