The weather outside is frightful, so it’s the perfect time to curl up in front of the fire with a hot cup of sad and listen to “Put a Little Love On Me,” the latest taste of Niall Horan‘s upcoming album. The four-Kleenex weeper that dropped on Friday morning (Dec. 6) is a spare, emotional ballad written by Horan with longtime collaborators Jamie Scott and Daniel Bryer (who also produced it), along with Mike Needle, with lush strings arranged and produced by Greg Kurstin.
“When the lights come up and there’s no shadows dancing/ I look around as my heart is collapsing/ ‘Cause you’re the only one I need,” Horan sings about a love gone wrong over haunting piano in the Cameron Busby-directed video, in which he plays the keys as a woman in red dances alone in a spotlight.
“Just wanted to release this song because I feel like it deserves to be released and I want you to have it now,” the singer tweeted.
Update: Horan dropped off a lyric video for the track on Wednesday (Jan. 8). Check it out here.
