Cyrus proves to be easily distracted by the furry friends throughout the interview, pausing to assign new names to each of them as they become more and more rambunctious. One particular pup warmed right up to Cyrus, resting on her chest for the entirety of the video.
Her favorite pup got its name when Cyrus answered the question, “How did it feel to sing ‘The Climb’ for the first time in years this week?” The singer immediately admitted, “Not as good as it feels holding my little angel. Your name is Angel. I named you Angel. That was my grandma’s dog’s name.”
She continued, “When there was the tragedy in Vegas it was so amazing to be able to sing that song and be able to make it current for what everyone needed to hear: that there’s always gonna be another mountain, another struggle, but it’s all about the climb.”
After answering the question, Cyrus returned to discussing the adorable puppy that had snuggled up onto her shoulder. “I have to keep the angel, don’t you think? But Liam will be so mad.”
Cyrus also gave advice for “young women who feel repressed when it comes to their identity,” later in the video. “My advice would be, surround yourself with friends who think like you, but also make sure you expose yourself to different types of people but keep people around you that always lift you up and support you.”
Miley Cyrus’ new album, Younger Now, is out now. Watch the entire interview with BuzzFeed below. All the puppies in the video — except maybe Cyrus’ favorite Angel — are available for adoption at North Shore Animal League.
