Miley Cyrus is her own best subject in a playful, self-directed short film for luxury designer Gucci’s new collection, Aria. The singer chills in the grass, tosses confetti and frolics among oversized mushrooms in the 45-second mini-movie cued to Melanie’s iconic 1971 ode to rollerskating with abandon, “Brand New Key.”
While hanging with her dogs, Miley rocks a bright green Gucci logo jacket and matching high-waisted pants with a white shirt, as well as some oversized glasses and silver platform shoes in the film that opens with her lounging on a blanket in what appears to be her California backyard. She gets down in the grass to peer through some blades as the French title of her short fills the screen, “Un court-métrage de Miley” (a short film by Miley), and, of course, she sticks out her tongue at the camera.
It’s all fun and games as the singer mugs for the camera, fluffs her blonde mullet and lays down with her pooches to peruse a GucciQuiz! puzzle booklet — which Jared Leto and Serena Williams were spotted with this week — before slapping her hands together and announcing, “that’s a wrap!” Gucci announced that Aleesandro Michele’s newest collection will be unveiled on Thursday (April 15) via a film that will debut at 9 a.m. ET.
Gucci is turning 100 this year and to celebrate, the designer brand is spotlighting its Beloved line of handbags with a star-studded campaign throughout the year that will feature Harry Styles, Awkwafina, Williams, Diane Keaton, Sienna Miller, James Corden and Dakota Johnson.
