Michael W. Smith wants to start a revolution in 2018. Well, at least that’s what he’s insisting with his latest tune.
The Christian rocker unveils his bright, inspirational new song titled just that via Billboard below. “Revolution” is from Smith’s forthcoming album A Million Lights, which is set for release on Feb. 16.
“‘Revolution’ was the first song I landed on for the new album. It’s a bit of a throwback thought but no less true — that we need a love revolution,” Smith tells Billboard. “We need to listen more and talk less. We need to understand more and judge less. We need to love more, and we certainly need to love better. I guess that will always be the case, but it’s sure true for today!”
Acoustic guitar pairs with anthemic drums on the track, with Smith’s soft vocals providing the perfect accompaniment to make “Revolution” a lighthearted call-to-action as he sings lines like “We’ll build a bridge to the other side/ Across the great divide/ We can make it happen.” The song is right in line with the messages of hope Smith will provide on A Million Lights, which also features tracks with titles like “Love Always Wins” and “Forgive.”
In support of his next LP, Smith will hit the road to sing “Revolution” and other tracks from A Million Lights in not-so-conventional markets, featuring stops at churches around the country — a new tour style close to Smith’s heart.
“Forever until the world ends, music is the most powerful language there is,” he says. “It can transform your life on every level, not just the spiritual. It feels right to start this world tour in churches around the country. Music can help people reconnect with why they’re here, and that’s what I want people to take away from my new music.”
The Surrounded By a Million Lights World Tour is presented in partnership with Compassion International, a child-advocacy ministry, for which Smith has helped sponsor more than 70,000 children from third-world countries. In addition to the dates below, Smith will also be touring Israel from April 10 through April 20, and will head out on his annual Michael W. Smith and Friends Alaska Cruise from July 21 through July 28.
Tickets for the tour will be available on Jan. 31, with most markets offering special VIP packages that grant fans early entry, premium seating and a Q&A session with Smith. Fans can purchase tickets here.
