2015 has been quite the year for pop singer Melanie Martinez.
The Voice alum has been able to make her mark with her studio album Cry Baby, which debuted at an impressive No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Martinez has made herself known as an eccentric artist who is involved in every step of her creative process. In an interview with Billboard, the singer opened up about how creating Cry Baby affected her.
“Working on this album has been very emotional and super personal, and creating this character Cry Baby helped me deal with my own insecurities,” Martinez said. “I was able to throw it all onto Cry Baby instead of myself, which really helped me. It’s definitely been a process.”
Martinez visited Billboard studio in New York City for two stripped-down performances of songs from the Cry Baby album. Watch her performances of “Pity Party” above and “Soap” below.
