On Friday (Oct. 16), Max Ehrich unveiled his debut single “Afraid,” a piano ballad that breaks down the often scary emotional rollercoaster of falling in love.
“I’m afraid to love you, love you/ Afraid to give in my all/ I’m afraid to love you, love you/ And love you with my whole heart,” he belts in the chorus.
In the accompanying video, he’s seen in a dark room, performing the track while playing the piano, as colorful lights shine on him.
“I hope ‘Afraid’ will help people allow themselves to be vulnerable,” the actor-turned-singer said in a statement to Billboard. “I recorded this song as I was falling in love. It speaks of all the emotions that I was going through at that time. The simplicity of the piano totally brings it home for me. It’s beyond fulfilling to be able to release these feelings in a song.”
The song comes just a few weeks after Demi Lovato called off her engagement to Ehrich; the onetime couple got engaged in July 2020 and reportedly started dating earlier this year.
Ehrich, who is fresh off the set of the upcoming movie Southern Gospel, is set to release a six-song EP via EXM Productions in early 2021.
