Where’s the best place to look for love? A paint studio where there’s acid available, apparently.
Max premieres his “Acid Dreams” video on Billboard today (Sept. 27), which sees the singer and his collaborator, curly haired rapper Felly, experimenting with paints and test-tubed chemicals while making a love connection with girls in the studio. And yes, it’s as puzzling as it sounds — but appropriate for a trippy-titled tune.
The yellow-and-purple-colored “Acid Dreams” video seems to be a follow-up to the love story that unfolded in the quirky visual for Max’s Quinn XCII collab “Love Me Less,” as ladies named Emily (Max’s real-life wife) and Jane also appeared in that clip. “Love Me Less” ended with Jane moving on from Max with his best friend, so in “Acid Dreams,” Max gets sweet revenge: As everyone else pairs off with someone in the room, Jane stands humiliated (and seemingly naked).
But in real life, there’s no bad blood between Max and Jane, and she’s one of the many friends Max wanted to be part of his latest video that marks a dream come true for the “Lights Down Low” singer. Max tells Billboard that an ensemble cast video is something he has been wanting to do for a long time, and with so many of his pals in one visual, the New York native can’t help but consider this vid a “labor of love.”
But those who simply watch the “Acid Dreams” video may call it a smorgasbord of happenings — from paint fights to a bearded dragon that is, you know, just chilling — especially once most of the cast put a magic strip of something on their tongues (acid, perhaps?). As you watch the series of events unfold, Max wants you to pay close attention for something particularly random: “If you can find the scene where the bearded dragon poops on Felly — which was a totally unplanned moment, by the way — you win.”
