Madonna posted a short video Thursday (Nov. 29) to share gratitude, and the pop icon included a short snippet of Steve Aoki and BTS’ new single “Waste It on Me” playing over a clip of herself with Michael Jackson, .
“As I wait to finish my new record and think about the future, I can’t help thinking about the past and the amazing humans that came into my life,” Madonna wrote. “If we knew then what we know now.”
She also hashtagged the post using the words “history,” “gratitude,” “wisdom” and “hindsight.”
The 20-second video attached to the post features the King and Queen of Pop talking to CNN on what appears to be the red carpet of the Oscars in 1991, which Madonna has previously declared her “best date ever.” The interview appears to come from a YouTube video of Japanese media’s coverage of the event and is dubbed over with a brief clip of Jungkook singing “Waste It on Me.” The song, Steve Aoki’s third collaboration with BTS, was released on Oct. 25. It peaked at No. 89 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated Nov. 10.
The clip saw more than 1 million views combined within eight hours of it being shared on Twitter and Instagram, as fans flocked to the comment section to express excitement over Madonna’s song choice, and to reminisce about Jackson and Madonna’s roles as pop icons.
