Adele could have had a place on The Unruly Mess I’ve Made, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis‘ sophomore album – but she kindly declined, according to Macklemore. The rapper had requested that she contribute to the track “Growing Up.”
“She graciously passed,” he told the New York Times when asked whether any potential collaborators turned him down. He added, “I’m sure that there were times that we never heard back from somebody’s manager or something like that, but for the most part, no.”
“Growing Up,” which was released months ahead of the new album, is a song that Macklemore dedicates to his daughter, Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty – and it ended up featuring another Brit, Ed Sheeran.
“There is nothing like the joy and happiness that comes from bringing a baby into this universe. She has filled my heart in ways that I never knew were possible. She is the love of my life. This song is for her,” Macklemore wrote in August.
