Recording an album can be a very intimate experience. It involves long hours in close quarters pouring out your emotions, sometimes with people you’re still getting to know as they get a first-hand look at your rawest self.
Also, it can be fun and silly and kind of weird. Cue the series of behind-the-scenes videos and pictures Lorde posted on Friday morning (May 26), as she counts down the three weeks left before the release of her anticipated second album, Melodrama. The tweetspree began with a glimpse at an early demo of “Sober,” from a session in the “tiny” Los Angeles studio she worked in with the album’s executive producer, Bleachers leader Jack Antonoff.

She continued with a shot of Antonoff and album engineer Laura Sisk, who she says “put thousands of late night hours in over 18 months.”

There’s also one of Antonoff playing some plaintive piano late at night at New York’s iconic Electric Lady Studios in December.

And, one of Jack just kind of being a dork and wanting to show Lorde the funniest video ever. (Spoiler alert: we don’t get to see what it is.)

Parting is such sweet sorrow in one of the final peeks, when Antonoff snaps a pic of Lorde in the car as they part ways on the final night of recording.

The spree ended with a funny exchange between Jack and Lorde in which she remembers complaining about being cooped up and doing nothing but working on “a bunch of lyrics that needed finishing” when Antonoff gave her some classic words to live by: “happiness is for tourists write you little f—er.”
