New York-based pop duo Loote makes it clear that they have entirely removed a reviled ex from their prime bedroom real estate in their video for “Your Side of the Bed,” available today via Island Records.
The video, directed by Chandler Lass, features Loote members Emma Lov and Jackson Foote moving through several locations as the bed continues to elude an old flame. It’s a spot-on visual that illustrates the song’s simultaneous sense of loss and celebration from cutting a close companion loose for the right reasons.
“There’s a layer of more intimate and specific feelings, emotions and situations that you find yourself in after a breakup that don’t even occur to you at first… you’re reminded of it everywhere you go,” the group tells Billboard. ”We wanted to show what it’s like to experience those things alone instead of with that person, and processing the shock of it.”
“Bed” once again proves the pair’s skill for composing heartfelt pop anthems following singles like “High Without Your Love” and songwriting credits that include the Cheat Codes–Demi Lovato collab “No Promises.” Their latest shoot added a whole new dimension to their work as the group had their on-screen abilities tested in the unexpected filming conditions.
“We were psyched to shoot the video in LA because we thought we were getting away from the east coast winter, and then it was literally 30 degrees when we got to the desert,” the duo reveals.
No matter the literal and figurative frostiness they have endured, Loote have enough heat to keep the other side of the bed warm until the right one comes along.
