Released on Thursday (Feb. 14), the up-and-coming pop singer’s bright voice shines on the love song as she sings, “You take me high when I’m dropping low/And you show me places I’ve never known/Even when we’re just riding ‘round town getting stoned/Boy you put me back together again.”
For her version of the 2018 track, Huett stripped the song of its electronic elements and bass drop in favor of a warmer, more organic sound that focused on the lyrics.
“The first time I heard it I was floored,” she said of the Cheat Codes original. “It’s the first time I’ve related to a song I didn’t write in a such a raw way and the melody and lyrics are so beautiful, it cut straight to my heart. I just had to sing it and I wanted to put a more stripped version out that highlights how simply great the song is.”
Before launching her solo career, Huett spent three years touring as a backing vocalist for Taylor Swift. The singer-songwriter released her debut single “STFU & Hold Me” in August 2017 and is expected to drop more new music later this year.
