A day after performing live at Billboard’s Los Angeles office, Little Boots returns with the premiere of the latest visual for her simmering electropop EP, Burn.
“The video for ‘Picture’ draws from the lyrics, about an image being able to instantly take you somewhere emotionally, even if it’s not a place you particularly wanted,” Victoria Hesketh — aka Little Boots — tells Billboard.
Shot all in one take, the Marion Bergin-directed video encounters Hesketh in the eerie environment of her subconscious. Tropical fauna does little to warm the mood. “Picture” is the second track off Burn — a sleek, densely-rhythmic post-breakup EP — and the overbearing feeling is she’s stumbled onto an unwanted digital spirit.
“I wanted to explore our relationship with technology and the powerlessness we can have over what it presents to us,” she says.
Speaking on the EP’s opening track “Shadows,” the U.K.-born, L.A.-based artist pointed out she’d been collaborating mainly with female and non-binary collaborators on the new project. “It was amazing to continue working with amazing talented women, including Marion,” she says. “For the first time in my experience of shooting videos, I think 80 percent of our crew on set were female!”

Burn arrives this Friday (April 6) via Hesketh’s own On Repeat imprint. For the backstory on how the one-time major label artist reinvented herself, read our 2013 interview.
