Carly Rae Jepsen knows all about songs of the summer and the “Call Me Maybe” singer might have just lobbed a late contender into the mix. After performing it live and teasing it on Instagram in March, the singer debuted “Super Natural,” her collaboration with PC music producer Danny L Harle on Thursday.
“I wrote the melody for ‘Super Natural’ before I had any lyrics in mind, and even at that stage I knew it was going to be an important track for me,” Harle said in a press release announcing the song, according to Pitchfork. “I found that the lyrics came to me easily once I had the tune. Carly was always at the top of my list of people who could sing it, but I never envisaged it actually happening! Ever since I heard ‘Call Me Maybe’ she has been one of my dream collaborators. I love her take on the track; her voice has an amazingly positive energy which was essential in giving ‘Super Natural’ a necessary sense of euphoria.”
The sprightly electro pop tune has Harle’s signature keyboard-fueled bounce, with Jepsen providing bright-eyed vocals, singing “You gotta believe in me/ This isn’t normal, not at all/ It’s just like we don’t try/ We just fit, you and I/ We are supernatural/ Supernatural” on the tune’s uplifting chorus.
