Lily Allen previewed her upcoming album No Shame (due June 8) on Late Night with Seth Meyers last night (April 23), and by all accounts, the album would seem to feature seriously personal and emotional material. For the TV appearance, Allen performed “Three,” a sparse ballad written from the perspective of one of her young daughters.
Over piano, bass and synthesized strings, Allen’s stirring lyrics describe the emotional landscape of a child whose mom is seemingly always away on tour with detail, heart and candor. “Of course there’s lots of things I could be getting on with / I’m never short of things to do / This afternoon I made a papier maché fish, mum / I made it just for you,” Allen sings.
Allen also debuted new material for an intimate crowd at New York City’s Music Hall of Williamsburg last night. Fans were treated to new songs like “Three” and “Trigger Bang,” as well as old favorites such as “Smile.”
