U.K.-based singer-songwriter Lily Allen stopped by London’s Metropolis Studios for a special Spotify Singles session to play some new music and put her spin on a classic. Allen recorded a cover of Tears for Fears’ “Mad World” and performed a bare version of “Family Man” from her June album No Shame.
Allen reflects on the trials her romantic relationship faces due to her fears and insecurities in “Family Man.” For the newly recorded version, Allen’s sweeping vocals glide alongside piano keys that carry a romantic, melancholic tone as she pleads, “Baby, don’t leave me, I’m just doing what I can to get by.”
The second track continues this melancholic theme in her piano-accompanied cover of the 1982 song “Mad World” from English pop-rock band Tears for Fears. Allen’s bare emotions frame the song, adding a bit of her romantic, feminine tone.
