Liam Payne and J Balvin teamed up for a funky, bilingual track “Familiar”, which premiered Friday (April 20). The 24-year-old singer also took to Twitter to share the video for the soon-to-be summer hit, available exclusively on Spotify.
In the clip, Payne and Balvin are nearly identical with their buzzed haircuts as they switch off verses from inside the club. Upon first listen, “Familiar” induces flashbacks to Justin Timberlake’s “Senorita”, the sultry Neptunes-produced single from 2002 — as does the video. Yet with the sweet Spanish guitar and clap-heavy beat, the dynamic duo of Payne and Balvin have made a hit for this current decade all on their own.
