Indie pop songstress LÉON made her long-awaited return on Tuesday (Sept. 25) with the release of her new single, “Baby Don’t Talk.” She then followed up the track with a super-saturated, ’70s-inspired video on Wednesday (Oct. 3).
LÉON commands the microphone in the Wendy McColm-directed visual, acting as the star in a variety of television programs.
The fun-yet-sassy, piano and synth-infused track details LÉON in pursuit of a romance where she is strictly interested in all things physical and is so consumed by lust that no words are necessary. “So show me how you work/with your lips, with your hands and your heart,” she croons, with the confidence of an in-control woman that knows exactly what she wants, when she wants it.
“‘Baby Don’t Talk’ is about feeling a bit tired of having words ‘ruin the moment.’ Sometimes you just don’t need to say things out loud and just let the body talk instead,” LÉON tells Billboard of the track. “Me and the guys I wrote it with, Captain Cuts, talked about how that can be the case sometimes. Whether it’s in a long-term relationship or with a one night stand — sometimes words can kill the vibe. It’s a fun song about getting a little closer. I tend to write a lot about heartache so this was a breath of fresh air for me, and I hope people will like it as much as I do.”
The song is LÉON’s first release in almost a year, and is the first single from her upcoming debut album, which is set for release in 2019.
