Vocal powerhouse Jorja Smith turned heads on Thursday night (Nov. 15) with a striking performance of “Don’t Watch Me Cry” at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. In a stripped-down setting on a darkened stage, Smith’s sublime vocals floated against the sounds of a grand piano as she emoted her way through the touching ballad from her debut album, Lost and Found.
Wearing her hair up and a form-fitting black dress with feathered shoulder straps, the 21-year-old looked elegant as she evoked a sense of tranquility with the intimate tune.
Moving inward and mining her feelings, Smith sang the emotional lyrics, “I’m not crying ’cause you left me on my own/ I’m not crying ’cause you left me with no warning/ I’m just crying ’cause I can’t escape what could’ve been/ Are you aware when you set me free?/ All I can do is let my heart bleed.”
