Lana Del Rey sings an a cappella version of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” in a new video teasing an upcoming documentary on legendary football club Liverpool FC. The song from Rogers & Hammerstein’s musical Carousel that has become the beloved anthem of the Premier League champs is best known via the 1963 cover by Gerry and the Pacemakers that is sung by soccer fans at matches.
LDR’s preview came via a two-and-a-half minute black and white clip in which she croons the song into a handheld mic while wearing headphones. “For the new documentary about Liverpool,” she wrote about the film, about which little information had been released at press time.
“When you walk through the storm/ Hold your head up high/ And don’t be afraid of the dark/ At the end of a storm/ There’s a golden sky/ And the sweet silver song of lark,” Del Rey sings in a clear, powerful voice in the grainy, weathered-looking visual that debuted Tuesday night (Nov. 3). “Walk on, walk on/ With hope in your heart/ And you’ll never walk alone/ You’ll never walk alone.”
LDR’s recent single, “Let Me Love You Like a Woman,” was voted as the favorite new track of the week by music fans in a poll published on Oct. 16 on Billboard. The song is the first single from her upcoming album, Chemtrails Over the Country Club, which was delayed from a Sept. 5 release until early January due to a lengthy vinyl-making process.
