With the release of her fourth major-label studio album Lust For Life today (July 21), Lana Del Rey gifts fans 16 brand new tracks, true to her signature nostalgic, sad-pop sound. But how does it hold up to the rest of the songstress’ catalog?
Though the singer-songwriter born Elizabeth Woolridge Grant unleashed her first work with the debut full-length Lana Del Ray in 2010, her first major-label album as Lana Del R-E-Y came with 2012’s Born To Die. Riddled with now-classic Lana tracks like “Blue Jeans,” “Video Games” and “Summertime Sadness,” the album cemented the star’s commitment to a melancholy Americana brand, and kick-started her growing fan base.
But even the most die-hard Del Rey fanatics might prefer Ultraviolence, the 2014 album that brought us “Black Beauty” and “West Coast,” along with the breathy, gloomy title track. Or maybe 2015’s Honeymoon reigns supreme — after all, it’s hard to deny the hazy perfection that is that album’s lead single “High By The Beach.” And Lust For Life is a sure contender for the best Del Rey album yet, especially considering its impressive list of collaborators and songwriters.
Ultimately, it will be up to fans to decide which Del Rey album reigns supreme. Reminisce on a few oldies and vote for your favorite below.
