Meet Parekh & Singh. The Kolkata, India-based dream pop duo — comprised of multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Nischay Parekh and percussionist/producer Jivraj Singh — went international earlier this year after inking a deal with mega U.K. indie label Peace Frog Records (Little Dragon, Jose Gonzalez, Moodymann).
And today, the act touches down stateside with the release of their shimmering debut single “I Love You Baby, I Love You Doll,” premiering exclusively via Billboard.
A sweet folk-inspired serenade to a loved one, the sun-kissed track is sonically lighthearted, while the subject matter charts the agony and ecstasy of uncertain young love — innocence tempered by experience.
“We’re friends, enemies, neighbours, brothers. We wrestle, play table tennis, make music, eat, think, roam the streets,” Jivraj tells Billboard of their instant musical connection, which sprung from a shared experience as dreamers working in offices — Jivraj keeping books at his family hotel and Nischay as an accountant for his father’s business. “The partnership is part of a continuum of shared experience that we almost don’t need to think about.”
“I Love You Baby, I Love You Doll” appears off the band’s forthcoming debut LP Ocean, set for release October 28 on Peacefrog Records.
