As part of Billboard’s Black Music Month celebration, we’ve asked Black artists spanning all genres to compile their own unique playlist exclusive to Billboard‘s Spotify account. Each song they’ve chose reflects their admiration for fellow artists — from previous generations to the new millennial era — who have made an impact on the culture. Today, pop star Khalid shares his soundtrack.
“As a young black musician there are many artists who not only inspire me daily, but have also influenced the way that I grew up and my musical capabilities,” Khalid says. “I believe that these standout artists not only shaped myself, but also shaped many generations to come.”
Khalid recently launched The Great Khalid Foundation, a music and arts organization for underserved communities that aims to support the youth. His “Eastside” collaboration with Halsey and Benny Blanco has spent 45 weeks on Billboard‘s Pop Songs radio airplay chart, tying the record for the most weeks spent on the chart with “Love Lies” featuring Normani and Dua Lipa’s “New Rules.” His Free Spirit arena tour kicks off June 20.
