The pair first discussed Robinson’s new role as host of FOX’s The Masked Dancer, which also features judges Ken Jeong, Brian Austin Green, Ashley Tisdale and none other than Paula Abdul. During their chat, the actor revealed he once taught elementary and middle school music before taking up comedy full time.
“I was teaching and I was doing comedy at night,” he dished from behind the wheel of his classic car, christened Clementine. “So I did the Montreal Comedy Festival, ended up getting a development deal. So then I came out to L.A. the following year,” he shared, and left his teaching career behind.
Robinson also told Clarkson that while he may not be an expert, he certainly has the moves to qualify for his hosting gig, which is The Masked Singer‘s new dance-centric spin-off. “That’s a layered question. Yes, I dance,” he said. “Do I know what a shuffle ball change is? Yes. Can I execute one? No. But, I can cut a rug. Back in the day, I would take over the dance floor solo if needed be. … Like, if the DJ starts, I’m not afraid to run to the dance floor first.”
Finally, after bonding over their shared love for Abdul, Robinson whipped out a keyboard to show off his musical prowess and jam freestyle with the season one American Idol champ.
“It’s nice to meet you at the drive-thru,” he crooned before correcting himself, “Drive-in, that’s what I meant, yeah.”
“But I kinda wanna go to a drive-thru and get some fries, yeah, yeah,” Clarkson sang back with a laugh. “Do you want ’em animal style?/ I don’t!/ It’s too messy/ Just want a plain fry/ In my mouth/ Goin’ straight to my ass and thighs!”
