In a new interview, Entertainment Weekly asked Katy Perry if she planned to finally release a response to Taylor Swift‘s “Bad Blood” — the 1989 Billlboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit everyone took as a diss to Perry — on her upcoming LP.
“Well, that’s not my question to answer — if it’s about me,” the “Bon Appétit” singer replied.
Perry continued: “We got to keep it real, honey. This record is not about anyone else! This record is about me being seen and heard so that I can see and hear everyone else! It’s not even about me!” The star revealed that her yet-to-be-named project is set to empower, but warned, “You can’t mistake kindness for weakness and don’t come for me.”
Perry also informed EW that she recorded 40 new tracks for the project but shaved it down to a final 15.
Songs expected to appear on the track list include No. 4-peaking lead single “Chained to the Rhythm,” recently released “Bon Appétit,” “a fun dance song called ‘Swish Swish'” and “Bigger Than Me,” a track inspired by Hillary Clinton’s loss in the 2016 presidential election. The record will also embrace the star’s transition from her 20s to 30s and will feature more of an introspective look into Katheryn Hudson — the legal name of Katy Perry.
