A baby girl isn’t the only thing Katy Perry is planning to deliver this year.
During a Sunday night (May 10) Facebook livestream, the singer confirmed that her fifth studio album is going to bust through the coronavirus lockdown during 2020. Perry said the follow-up to 2017’s Witness will hit your ears in 2020, pandemic be damned.
“Definitely have to stay creative,” she said while dressed in a green headwrap and matching dress with giant hoop earrings while seated in her lush outdoor garden. “In California, you know, there’s going to be a lot of rules and ways of doing things – we’re not just going to go back to normal,” she said during the half-hour chat with fans.
The stream also found Perry messing around with a series of silly filters that landed horns, butterflies and a salmon color on her face as she felt like an “old fart” for being distracted by the digital effects.
But then the important part. “I’m gonna to put out a record this year, quarantined or not, because we ain’t gonna let no coronavirus stop us from dancing, even if we’re dancing in our homes,” she said.
By the way, don’t forget that Perry’s new single, “Daisies,” is out on Friday (May 15). “Also, I think some of these songs could be helpful and empowering and hopeful and joyful,” Perry said, adding that she’s been forced to be “innovative” along the way because of her limited resources at the moment. “The music will speak for itself.”
She described how her team had to “pivot” hard because of the COVID-19 pandemic, including shooting the single art in her backyard. Perry’s chat took place before she slipping into something way less comfortable, Dumbo’s mom, Mrs. Jumbo, for Sunday’s second-to-last season 18 episode of American Idol.
