The Justin Bieber comeback is officially one month away. On Wednesday (July 29), the Biebs stopped by Ryan Seacrest’s syndicated radio show to announce that his new single — the first from his next album — is called “What Do You Mean,” and will be released in 30 days, which means the countdown is on for Aug. 28.
“I’ve been working a lot in the studio, just trying to have a consistent sound, a cohesive sound,” Bieber told Seacrest, adding that he has been painstaking with his creative process, to the point of frustration. “I had a rough week last week. I get in my head sometimes, and sometimes I just don’t want to to get out of bed.”
However, he called the first single from his upcoming full-length “amazing,” and confirmed that producer Jason “Pooh Bear” Boyd helmed the track. “Girls are often flip-floppy. They say something, and then they mean something else,” Bieber said of the song’s lyrics. “What do you mean? … I don’t really know, that’s why I’m asking.”
When asked about the sound of the song, Bieber called “What Do You Mean” “uptempo. It’s fun, it’s summery.” He added that the upcoming single is “along the same lines as ‘Where Are U Now,’” his recent collaborative hit with Skrillex and Diplo. Bieber added that Skrillex is a “genius,” after the EDM superstar called Bieber a “virtuoso” in an interview earlier this month.
Days before the release of “What Do You Mean,” Skrillex and Bieber will both perform at Billboard’s inaugural Hot 100 Festival next month — click here for more info on the lineup and tickets. After peaking at No. 8 on the Hot 100 chart, “Where Are U Now” clocks in at No. 13 on this week’s tally.
