Julia Michaels opened up about the difficulty in finding time to write songs while also being a performer, speaking with Billboard backstage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival.
“Writing is my first love. I will always be a songwriter,” she said. “It’s getting harder and harder to be able to do that, traveling and all of that stuff. But if that means that I just solely have to write for myself, I’m still writing, and I’m still connecting with people, no matter what I do.”
Michaels also discussed the reaction she received to “Issues” at the festival — during which she lost her voice — saying that it was “so unbelievable and every single time it’s even more unbelievable.”
In the interview, which you can watch above, Michaels also talked about stepping away from the songwriting process for DNCE’s “Cake By The Ocean” and revealed that she did not contribute to Selena Gomez’s new album.
