JoJo unveiled her festive new cover of “The Christmas Song” on Friday (Dec. 13), exclusively on Amazon Music.
On her version of the tried-and-true holiday standard penned by Robert Wells and Mel Tormé, the singer puts her vocal acrobatics firmly front and center, filling the track with more runs, riffs and ad libs than Santa can shake a branch of mistletoe at.
“And so, I’m offering this simple phrase/ To kids from one to ninety-two/ Although it’s been said many times, many ways/ Merry Christmas to you,” JoJo belts, reinventing the track’s melody and delivering the final note in stunning falsetto over doo-wop-esque back-up vocals.
“The Christmas Song” arrives just one week after the star released the catastrophe-fueled video for her latest Chika-assisted single, “Sabotage,” and almost exactly one year after she dropped reissues of her first two albums, 2004’s JoJo and 2006’s The High Road, as a surprise Christmas gift to fans.
