If you recently took a Lyft in Los Angeles and the driver looked kind of familiar, you were not wrong, it probably was Joe Jonas. The DNCE bandleader and his merry band of pranksters recently went incognito as part of the new installment of the “Undercover Lyft” series, where they shuttled fans around town and made small talk while hiding behind hats and shades.
Wearing aviators and a grey wool baseball hat, Joe greets his fares by introducing himself as “Thomas,” making small talk about their jobs and hometowns. In one scene, though, he’s not even wearing a disguise and when his rider mentions she’s going through a break-up with her job, he offers, “I was in a band and we broke up and that was similar, it was fine, it was what it was, it was good.”
The mystery ride is part of an ongoing series that has previously included ride-alongs with Demi Lovato, DJ Khaled and professional athletes such as Shaquille O’Neal, Odell Beckham Jr. and Rob Gronkowski.
Another rider notices that he kind of looks like Joe Jonas, which, of course, he says he gets “all the time.” As the rides progress, Jonas picks up three more riders, all wearing Hawaiian shirts, who happen to be his bandmates JinJoo Lee, Cole Whittle and Jack Lawless, though they claim to be the following: a fashion designer for cats, a professional snowboarder, a beatboxer, pool boy and chef. At one point he pretends to have an audition and asks his riders to help him get ready.
And, wouldn’t you know it, they eventually end up singing “Kissing Strangers.”
